Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Victorious Performance at Athlos in New York
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
