I cannot count on a three-year period at Man Utd - Amorim

Manchester United head coach

Ruben Amorim - pictured getting support post May's European final loss - says he is pleased by the co-owner's continued commitment but emphasized that the future is unpredictable in the sport.

The Red Devils' boss Amorim believes it's crucial the co-owner openly discussed his long-term thoughts - but says nothing is certain about tomorrow in football, let alone three years.

During a discussion with a leading newspaper recently, Sir Jim mentioned it may need the head coach three seasons to produce meaningful results at United's home ground.

Arriving during a time when Amorim's future has been under scrutiny after a prolonged run of poor performances, the comments helped quell some of the immediate pressure.

But, speaking before the hundredth encounter with historic adversaries the Merseyside club at their home ground, the United boss stressed that the future is hard to predict in the beautiful game.

"It is really good to listen to that but he communicates to me continuously, sometimes with a message post fixtures - but understand, I realize and Ratcliffe understands, that the sport isn't that predictable," he stated.

"The vital factor is the upcoming match. Despite having backers, you cannot manage the future in the sport."

CEO the club executive has conceded it has required far longer for the manager to adjust to the English top flight after his transfer from Sporting Lisbon during the winter than anyone imagined.

United have won 10 successes in 34 Premier League matches with the Portuguese coach. They are yet to win two league games in a row and have not ended a round of league games this season higher than ninth.

The worrying figures are testing faith in Amorim among the Red Devils supporters heading into a run of games their team has struggled during for the last couple of years.

United's boss commented he isn't experiencing the doubt within the organization at their training facility and is firm nothing equals the expectation he applies to the squad - and to some extent, he would prefer Ratcliffe to refrain from seeking to bring a sense of calm because he worries the effect it might produce on the players.

"It isn't merely an item of conversation, I feel it each day," he remarked. "It's certainly beneficial to receive it because it assists our supporters to grasp the management realize it needs a while.

"Yet concurrently, I dislike it because it creates an impression that we possess time to solve problems. I don't wish for that sense in our club.

"The pressure I apply to the squad or to myself is so much bigger [versus outside influences]. In soccer, especially in big clubs, you have to show your worth every matchday."
