The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
