Jon Ruben admitted 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on Friday

A person who spiked sweets with sedative and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities once more.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five children.
