One extended journey through Australia is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior woman who was abandoned by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The vessel departed without her and went back after some time after the personnel realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her remains the following day.

Officials are looking into the event, in coordination with investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the shipping company announced that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the ship.

The liner first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the journey at the point of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the voyage.

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and saddened that the vessel left the location after an organised excursion without my mum".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been told, it appears that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she stated.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have protected Her being".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to head down, alone. Then the ship departed, apparently without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that sequence, or not long after, mum passed away, by herself."

Company Reaction

In a statement, the CEO affirmed that the company was "cooperating fully with authorities to support their inquiry".

He stated that the firm was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had extended its total backing to the family.

The vessel caters for up to 120 guests with forty-six crew, according to corporate data. It was specifically designed to enter isolated areas of the nation's coast and is outfitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry passengers on land visits.
